We will celebrate Ash Wednesday at our church (an Evangelical Covenant church) at 5:30pm tonight with a simple soup supper and short service. Once there the pastor will speak the words of remembrance and mark our foreheads with a simple cross. I did not grow up observing Ash Wednesday or Lent. I thought it was only for Catholics or maybe the Episcopalians. I have found the practice to be a sobering and meaningful one. The next step is to "give up" something for the Lenten season. I'm still making my final choice on that. This year our church gave out a Lenten devotional book by C.S. Lewis. I'm looking forward to that. Trinity has given me a new layer in my depth of faith.
How do you (if you do) observe Ash Wednesday and the Lenten season?
