So a few years ago I started playing around with writing. It started with a letter to the editor of school budgets (which landed me a coffee date with then NC State Senator Kay Hagan - who went on to be come a US Senator), then a letter about the lottery, then an op ed piece about tolerance using an experience of going to see "The Wizard of Oz" play with my daughter's kindergarten class. All these were published in my local newspaper. Then nothing happened, as I can only write when "inspired". Last year though I was "inspired" once again and wrote a piece about parenting that got published once again in the local newspaper. I started this blog, and decided to explore the world of writing. A harmless hobby.
Then a friend asked me to read her blog, then asked if I'd like to be part of a new writers critique group - incredibly I said yes. Next thing I know, I'm writing all the time! I currently have three projects going on at the same time. I decided to write a youth novel for my critique group, I submitted a travel piece to an online travel journal contest, I'm writing a 2500 word short story for another contest by Family Circle and now I've decided to try my hand at a 500 word sensory piece.
Both feet are in the pool!
